Minesweeper

First cell and its neighbors are safe. Later positions may require guessing.

Ready when you are

Choose a mode, then start a fresh game.

How to play
  1. Choose a classic size or a custom board. Start the game, then reveal a cell: the first cell and its neighbors contain no mines.
  2. Each number counts mines in its eight neighboring cells. Right-click, long-press or switch to Flag mode to mark a suspected mine.
  3. When neighboring flags match a revealed number, open its other neighbors with the button, double-click or C. Reveal every non-mine cell to win.

This is classic random Minesweeper, not a no-guess generator. Flags are not verified by the game. A daily layout is repeatable only with the same UTC date, dimensions, mine count and first click.

Read the numbers before opening the next cell

An example

A revealed 1 with one correctly flagged neighboring mine lets you open its other neighbors. If that flag is wrong, opening neighbors can hit a mine and end the round.

Frequently asked questions

Does a safe first click mean I never have to guess?

No. The first cell and its neighbors are protected, but later positions may require a guess. There is no no-guess guarantee.

How do I flag mines on a phone?

Long-press a covered cell or enable Flag mode and tap. Drag to scroll larger boards; use the cell-size control to choose compact or comfortable cells.

Where is my progress saved?

Game progress and records stay in this browser, without cloud sync. Clearing browser data removes them. Accounts, comments and anonymous operation events still use normal site requests; boards and answers are not included.
